Marlette Lake Mittens
These cozy mittens were designed as a quick knit gift item and knit with a heavy worsted yarn.
Construction:
Details were thought out to give you a nicely fitted mitten that is not too restricting.
- Tip down starting with Judy’s Magic Cast On
- Fingers shaped for right and left hand to reduce bulk.
- New increase pattern for a more rounded top to prevent tightness
- A faux cable/rib stitch pattern that expands nicely.
- A slip stitch palm pattern that results in a firmer knit fabric and curves forward in to mimic the shape of you hand.
- An afterthought thumb with added adjacent shaping for better movement,
Pattern and Sizing
Includes written instruction and full charts for right and left hands and for regular and long size. The faux cable / rib pattern provides enough flexibility that it fit everyone I tried it on. The length of the fingers is the variable.
- Finger length and thumb placement is modified for the 2 sizes.
- Width Unstretched: 7” circumference
- Length from Tip to Cuff: 9.5” / 10.5”
Yarn
The two sample yarns have very different in content and feel. You can knit a pair of mittens from one ball. With a 100g ball you could get 3 pair from 2 balls.
-
The tightly spun Cascade 220 Superwash Merino (label gauge of 20 sts per 4”/10 cm) acts more like a heavy worsted (18 sts per 4”/10 cm) on a US 7.
-
The soft and light Rowan mohair blend (16-18 sts per 4”/10 cm) does not have as much memory. It was too loose when knit on the recommended US 8 needles but is perfect on US 7.
