Grab your favorite sock and shawl leftovers! I love being able to use up my fingering weight scraps. This hat is a great way to add a pop of color to your wardrobe while also revisiting your favorite neutrals. Fingering weight yarn is held double throughout to make a squishy, warm, inexpensive hat that works up to DK/worsted weight. I use three contrast colors in a random pattern, but feel free to add more colors, change them up at different intervals, or fade them.

This hat is written for an adult small/medium woman’s head (+/- 21 inch/53.5 cm circumference) with a finished size of 20 in/51 cm equating to 1 inch/2.5 cm of negative ease. To increase or decrease size you would add or subtract a multiple of 8 sts. This measurement equals approximately 1.5 inches/4 cm. Sizes are listed below:

17 in/43 cm (small child)
18.5 in/47 cm (older child)
21.5 in/54.5 cm (large woman/small man)
23 in/58.5 cm (large man)

This hat uses 60g total of fingering weight yarn. MC (50g) is used throughout. You will need approximately 30g each of three contrast colors. These numbers err on the side of having extra yardage. Your hat may use more or less of each color, depending on how many contrast colors you choose and how often you switch colors in the stripe sequence.
