A twist on ombré socks, Marling Darling is a simple, cuff-down design with a heel flap and gusset. You will be using three strands of fingering weight held together with a strand of lace weight mohair throughout the project. This creates a lovely, chunky weight sock great for slippers on cold winter nights.

Sizes: Ladies shoe size 5/6 (7/8, 9/10)
Finished Foot Length
Small 5/6 9 inches (23 cm)
Medium 7/8 9 ½ inches (24cm)
Large 9/10 10 ½ inches (26.5cm)

This pattern could be easily adapted for larger or smaller widths as 5 stitches are equal to 1 inch.

Needles: set of 5 DPNs in size 3.75 mm (US 5)
Gauge: 20 x 28 rows = 4” (10cm) in stockinette
stitch. You may need to go up or down a needle size to obtain gauge.

Yarn: Fingering + Fingering + Fingering + Mohair (lace) = Aran/Chunky weight

This pattern is great for mini skeins. You can use as many colours as you’d like, even incorporating odds and ends from your stash.
For cohesion, I recommend using one colour throughout the entire project. Either one strand never changes (ex mohair) or tones of one colour are always present.

There is no striping of the yarns, only soothing stockinette stitches that marl in meditative rows. You will always be holding together 4 strands of yarn in 4 different complimentary colours.

Tips for marling and colour selection, as well as weaving in your ends as you go, are included in the pattern.
