Our Marram Shawl is designed for intermediate knitters.The triangular shawl is knitted from point to flat edge with increases along one long side, making it simple and soothing to knit.

Sitting amongst the marram grass brings to mind Sunday beach walks on the west side - the Atlantic ocean roar, cold salty air with a flask of tea and biscuits.These tall, spiky tufts of grass are vital to the sand dunes stability.The marram roots create a surface barrier that protects the dunes against the harsh gales reducing the effects of erosion.

In addition, for hundreds of years marram has been a source of thatching material for Hebridean black houses and now, as a family, we continue this tradition using marram to thatch our Lamraig cottage.

Our Marram Shawl evokes the waves of dune grass on the west side of the Isle of Berneray.
