This pattern is available from December 1st, 2019.

This cowl is inspired by my walks in Hackney and Walthamstow marshes to the east of London, England, where I forage for plants to dye yarn with. The palette from these plants includes many shades of soft yellows, tans and greens, which I use rarely in my knitting, so I set myself a challenge to create something beautiful and useful with this palette. Also, I wanted an everyday item, that anyone could wear when out walking, something that would look good with denim, or the ubiquitous grey hoodie. Here is the end result – the Marshland Cowl, with pylons, water and flowers.

The stranded design uses two colours per row and the longest float is 5 stitches, so there is no need to trap the yarn; therefore it makes an ideal first project for people new to stranded colour work. The cowl has an outer layer with inner facings at the top and bottom, to cover potentially visible stranding. It is framed top and bottom with i-cord edges. The pattern also includes ideas for customising the cowl.

The design requires two main colours, with six contrast colours. The samples used:
MC1: 130m
MC2: 72m
CC1: 50m
CC2: 14m
CC3: 14m
CC4: 37m
CC5: 37m
CC6: 42m
I-cord: 46m

Kits for the cowl, using my plant dyed Shetland fingering are available from Wild and Woolly.
