Mary is quite a contrary Christmas fairy, but Ravelry wouldn’t let me use the full title!

Fairies aren’t always good and kind and thoughtful and all the nice things you imagine them to be. The only similarity Mary has with one of those fairies is they both have wings!
While the other elves and fairies are packing Santa’s sleigh, Mary always has an excuse so she doesn’t have to help!
Instead of making sure the children are fast asleep when Santa visits, Mary tries to wake them up by shouting, “SANTA’S HERE”!
When everyone’s busy helping Santa bring presents down the chimney, Mary’s busy helping herself to the cookies and milk. She tells Santa there wasn’t any at this house!
Mary prefers to sit on the 5th branch from the top of the Christmas tree, but she’ll be your fairy and you can put her anywhere you like!

As well as being contrary, Mary’s a rather quirky looking fairy! She wears a bell shaped dress decorated with a flower on the front and fairy wings on the back. Fluttering eyelashes, heart shaped lips and hair that could do with a good comb! She’s approximately 11.5cm tall, in her fairy tights. There’s also wire in her fairy tights and arms to make her poseable.

Only basic skills are required including forming magic rings, single crochet, half double and double crochet. The scale is small but you can use larger hooks and thicker yarns if you prefer to work bigger. Construction is kept simple and makes the most of join and sew-as-you-go techniques so as much finishing as posisble is hidden inside before you close up. You won’t need much of any of the yarns (4 ply/ DK) so ideal for using up yarns you happen to have. The pattern gives full instructions, tips, images and details of the materials I used, but Ask a Question if you’d like to more before you try.
