MaryJane socks follow the shape of classic Mary Jane shoes and are likely to be your most originally shaped pair of socks.
The pattern gives you instructions for the basic stockinette model. You can embellish it with texture, embroidery (tips included in the appendix), pompoms or any other decorative elements of your liking.

The socks are knit toe-up.

Difficulty: intermediate

Sizes

Based on foot circumference:
• XS (or children) 17-18.5 cm / 6.5-7.25”
• S – 19-21 cm / 7.5-8.25”
• M – 21.5-23 cm / 8.5-9”
• L – 23.5-25 cm / 9.25-9.75“
Sock length adjusted based on foot
length (/ shoe size as proxy)

Yarn

~35-55 g / 1.2-2 oz of classic sock yarn:
• Fingering weight (~400 m/ 435 yds per 100 g/ 3.5 oz)
• Wool-nylon mix

Gauge

34 sts * 44 rows = 10 cm/4” square of stockinette in the round, after wet-blocking

Tools

• 2.5 mm / US 1.5 (or size to get gauge!) circular needles on 60-80 cm / 24-32”cable (the pattern can be adjusted for DPNs, but it will be much fiddlier)
• Spare needle in the same or smaller size
• 2.5 mm / B or C crochet hook
• 2 stitch markers
• waste yarn
• tapestry needle and scissors
• sock blockers (optional)

Techniques

All linked videos were made by me, generic techniques do NOT have an English voiceover – simply follow the movements, or find an English video on YouTube by its name. Folding the cuff has an English voiceover as it is specific for this pattern.

• Provisional cast on with waste yarn and crochet hook
• German short rows
• Make 1 Left & Right Increases
