MARYLAND MUD TOPPERS:
After my first visit to the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival in 2022, I realized to embrace the festival was also to embrace the weather and the mud. On the return trip back to New England, with Erin from Morehouse Merino, we decided that having boot toppers for our mud boots would salute the weather and jazz up our ensembles for 2023.
2023 happens to be the 50th Anniversary of MD S&W – fitting to be well shod for an Anniversary celebration!
I really love these as a fun accessory for your rubber boots, but they would be great on Uggs, winter boots, or awesome leather boots. They sit best on boots with a flat top. There are instructions on fitting and musings about how to make them work best for you.
YARN:
The design is meant to be worked in a heavy sport, DK, or light worsted weight yarn. It could be worked in fingering, with adjusted needles. This was meant to be a fun quick project and that suits a slightly heavier yarn (not lace or fingering).
NEEDLES & GAUGE:
LACE - US 8 / 5.0 mm needles. Worked flat. You may use smaller rounds, DPN’s or straight needles.
CUFF - US 6 / 4.0 mm needles. Worked in the round. You may use smaller rounds, DPN’s.
I used magic loop with long needle cords and round needles.
GAUGE uses US 6 / 4.0 mm in Stockinette, in the round, without blocking.
GAUGE 24 Sts to 4” x 32 Rows to 4”
SIZE: (adjustable)
Women’s L - CUFF 3.5” high x 10” around (5” wide)
LACE 5” high (at points)16-17” around (flares slightly)
NOTIONS:
A yarn sewing needle or crochet hook for tucking in ends. Marker(s), if desired, for beginning of round.
