Recently, my daughter with special needs was hospitalized for some health issues. Rachel’s needs are severe, and sometimes she yells or grabs. But Rachel’s roommate, Mary, was very understanding. She introduced herself to Rachel and me, and she said she was glad that she had Rachel as her roommate. Even after Mary got a very difficult diagnosis, she was kind to us, taking time to chat and smile. Mary is one of those people who comes into your life for a short time but makes a lasting impression for filling a space with love. I designed this shawl for Mary and knit one for her as she faces a difficult health journey. May Mary and many others feel peace as they wrap up in this rectangular-shaped shawl. The pattern, which includes lacy leaves surrounding a center trellis, is knit in a worsted weight yarn that provides warmth for those who need it.
