This pattern is for a small no-sew gnome, a wheelbarrow, toadstool and spade! The pattern also includes printable templates to enable you to make the matchbox and name card, making it an ideal gift, stocking filler or craft fair item.

This project is no-sew (you only have to close the hole at the end) and so works up quickly.

The pattern is written in English using American crochet terms and contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way.

You will need:
Yarn of your choice. I used aran weight yarn (equivalent to worsted, weight 4) with a 3mm hook and my finished gnome measures approximately 7cm tall. Please note - the gnome is a fairly tight fit inside the matchbox so you may wish to use a thinner yarn to make it less of a snug fit. Using a thicker yarn or larger hook than this may result in your gnome not fitting inside the accompanying box.

You will need the following colours:

  • Hat & toadstool cap colour - I used red (approx. 6.5m).
  • Skin colour - I used light pink (approx. 1m).
  • Beard colour - I used white (approx. 3m).
  • Jacket colour - I used green (approx. 5m).
  • Belt colour - I used brown (approx. 1m).
  • Trousers colour - I used blue (approx. 3m).
  • Wheelbarrow & spade colour - I used light grey (approx. 6m).
  • Wheelbarrow wheel colour - I used black (approx. 1.5m).
  • Toadstool base colour - I used cream (approx. 3m).

Please note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

  • A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 3mm hook.
  • A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
  • A small amount of toy stuffing.
  • If you wish to add the belt buckle, you will need a small amount of gold / yellow yarn or thread.
  • Other tools you will need are a needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
  • To make the matchbox and name card, you will need access to a printer and to print the relevant pages out onto thick white paper or thin white card.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
