This pattern is for a small no-sew tortoise and a dandelion leaf. The pattern also includes printable templates to enable you to make the matchbox and name card, making it an ideal gift, stocking filler or craft fair item.

The plain tortoise is no-sew (you only have to close the hole at the end) and it can be made in just 20 minutes. The optional face and shell details can be added if preferred, although these are not essential.

The pattern is written in English using American crochet terms and contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way.

You will need:
Yarn of your choice. I used aran weight yarn (equivalent to worsted, weight 4) and my finished tortoise measures approximately 7cm long and 3cm tall. Using a thicker yarn than this may result in your pet tortoise not fitting inside the accompanying box.

You will need the following colours:

  • Head, body & legs colour - I used light green (approx. 7m).
  • Shell colour - I used beige (approx. 4.5m).
  • Dandelion leaf colour - I used dark green (approx. 2.5m).

Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

  • A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
  • A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
  • A small amount of toy stuffing.
  • Some finer yarn or thread for adding the details to the face and shell (this step is optional). I used black & dark brown.
  • Other tools you will need are a needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
  • To make the matchbox and name card, you will need access to a printer and to print the relevant pages out onto thick white paper or thin white card.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
