I designed this afghan for my brother’s wedding present when I couldn’t find any existing patterns that were just, you know, quite what I had in mind. Some were close, but maybe they weren’t the right size and it would be a pain to alter, or weren’t reversible, or frankly snowflakes just didn’t seem like the right motif for a wedding present.

It’s fully reversible thanks to ribbed cables and a jersey/guernsey style center motif, and works up quickly thanks to the use of bulky yarn. Because it is made of blocks sewn together, you can adjust it to any size you wish, by making more or less blocks. It is finished with a simple single crochet border, easy enough for the non-crocheter.

The heart motifs give it maybe a hint of romance, but I find the more interesting symbolism can be found in the fact that each square, turned on one side or the other has a slightly different look. Each block is a mirror of it’s neighbor and together the two form a perfect matched set.
