This is a pattern for a knit shawl featuring two fairly uncomplicated cables for those days you are wearing an elaborate outfit and don’t want to fight with it. Both are Aran cables with a long and popular history.

There are instructions within the pattern for making a shawl (20 1/2 inches wide), stole (15 inches wide), wide scarf (12 inches wide) and a narrow scarf (6 1/2 inches wide). The one in the picture is the shawl and is knit with sport weight yarn, requiring approximately 1000 - 1250 yards of yarn. That shawl is 20 1/2 inches x 74 inches long.

There are also instructions for an OPTIONAL crocheted edging, should you want it edged. (It is the only section of the shawl that is crocheted).

This shawl can be knitted in a single piece, or if you don’t like carrying that large a FO on your lap, there are instructions for the Kitchener stitch.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a good working knowledge of cabling)
The pattern is charted only.

The shawl was expertly tested by by Marie Franzosa, who can be reached at: franzosm@math.oregonstate.edu.and was knit with Fleece Artist’s BFL Sport yarn.

The pattern is for sale here on Ravelry and in my Etsy Shop in the Shawls/Stoles/Scarves section (https://www.etsy.com/shop/WearableArtEmporium?section_id=…)
