Mauna Kea
Mauna Kea is begins with the crochet brim, worked from side to side, fastened off, then seamed into a ring. The rise of the hat is worked along the side edge of the brim, back and forth, joining the end of the round to the beginning, then turning. One decrease round is worked toward the crown of the hat, then stitches are gathered to join at the top.

Shown in Manos del Uruguay’s Wool Clasica Naturals yarn
100% wool
100 gram hank = approx 138 yards
1 (1, 2, 2, 2) hanks in color 703, or approx 90 (130, 169, 210, 250) yards in a comparable earth-friendly yarn.
Crochet Hooks:
One each size US H/8 and I/9 (5 and 5.5 mm)
Or size to obtain gauge.
Gauge:
15 sts and 9 rows = 4” 10 cm in half double crochet, through the back loop with smaller hook. Take time to save time, check your gauge.
