Maura
Maura:
My aim was to design a cardigan, in which hand-dyed variegated yarns can show their values, but without having the horizontal stripes widening the figure. The cable-lace pattern, that appears in the center and the open-closed rhythm of the button-band emphasizes the vertical direction, thus optically narrowing the figure. Knitted buttons make the closure special, which also appear on the cuff. The neckline is formed by short rows, so it is higher at the back and a bit lower at the front. The cardigan is seamless, worked top down with raglan sleeves.
Notes on yarn choice:
A very springy yarn is recommended for this model, which is really elastic and can keep its shape. E.g.: 10cm/4” strand of the sample yarn can be stretched to 11.5cm/4.5”, then gets back to its original length.
Yarn of sample would be considered between DK and sport.
Ease:
Maura is a very close fitting model, designed with negative ease to have the button band openings create a chain of almond shapes.
Tension:
• 24sts x 35rows (in stockinette stitch) on largest needles=10cm x 10cm/4”x4”; measured flat, unstretched, after blocking.
• 22sts x 32rows (in stockinette stitch)=10cm x 10cm/4”x4”; measured on body.
