This cable knit cardigan has a simple four stitch cable that repeats every 6th row, making for an easy cable pattern to work. The sweater is constructed from 5 pieces: left front, right front, back and two sleeves. The neck edge is picked up and knit separately. The button and buttonhole band are included in the left front and right front pieces. Finishing includes weaving in ends, sewing the pieces together, washing, and sewing on buttons.

I wanted to create a small version of a sweater using a set-in sleeve construction in order to practice the technique on a small scale.

This pattern is for an adventurous beginner. I would encourage anyone who aspires to make an adult sweater with set-in sleeves but is intimidated by the amount of time and effort to give this a try.

The hat has a slight variation to the sweater cable pattern. It is knit flat and then seamed at the end.

Enjoy!
