Mavericks Wave Knitted Blanket is a beautiful light and airy ripple design offered in six sizes with four alternating shades of colors.
Skill Level: Intermediate
The entire blanket is easily created with a simple combination of knits and purls, along with increase and decrease stitches.
6 Blanket Sizes:
Baby - 26” x 38” (66 x 98 cm), 769 yds / 704 m
Stroller - 29” x 43” (74 x 108 cm), 955 yds / 873 m
Receiving - 32” x 46” (82 x 116 cm), 1,128 yds / 1,031 m
Lapghan - 36” x 54” (90 x 137 cm), 1,459 yds / 1,334 m
Throw - 42” x 64” (107 x 163 cm), 2,026 yds / 1,853 m
Bedspread - 48” x 73” (123 x 184 cm), 2,637 yds / 2,411 m
Circular Knitting Needles:
8 US (5.0 mm) – 36″ length
My yarn suggests a needle size of 4 - 6 US, however I chose size 8 to create a more airy, lacy finished piece.
Yarn Suggestions:
• Good Wool by Purl Soho (Sample)
• Baby Cashmerino from Debbie Bliss
• Cascade 220 Superwash Sport
• Chickadee from Quince & Co.
• Eden 3 ply from Sunday Knits
• Ewe So Sporty from Ewe Ewe Yarns
• Pashmina from madelinetosh
• Patagonia Organic Merino from Juniper Moon Farm
• TOV DK from WOOLFOLK
Pattern Row Repeats: 8-row repeat.
Lies Flat: Although the lace eyelets are within a stockinette texture, the garter stitch ridges give it more structure, allowing it to easily lie flat.
Not Reversible: This is not a reversible pattern because the design is only displayed on the right side of your work.

The Ripple Ridge Lace Knitting Pattern easily creates a beautiful and graceful texture. Similar to a vintage feather and fan, this old shale stitch variation includes an added structure with garter ridges between each of the lacy rows.
My inspiration for this design is my local Mavericks, the famous big wave surfing spot visible from my knitting studio near Half Moon Bay, California! It’s a popular spot for experienced big-wave surfers during the winter months when waves can top out at over 60 ft (18 m).
This project is not sponsored nor commissioned by Purl Soho. I simply had this beautiful yarn in my stash and chose it as one example of a good yarn choice.
