The Mawghan Blanket is designed using two yarn weights 4ply/fingering or 8ply/DK.
You choose the yarn weight that you would prefer.
The 4ply/fingering weight option is suitable for a baby’s large bassinet blanket or an adult’s lap blanket.
The 8ply/DK weight option is suitable for a cot blanket or an adults blanket/throw.

4ply/fingering blanket
1 x 3.25mm/US 3 80cm circular needle
1 x 3.25mm cable needle
Touch Yarns 4ply/fingering Shade #203, Natural White, approximately 225m per ball
Bassinet or lap blanket 6 x 50g/11oz (1350m/1477y)
Touch yarns 4ply is very light so there is more yardage in a ball, if using a substitute yarn check the yardage per skein or ball

Wool needle for sewing

8ply/DK blanket
1 x 4mm/US 6 80cm circular needle
1 x 4mm cable needle
Touch Yarns 8ply/DK Shade #855, Oatmeal, approximately 100m per ball
Cot or adult blanket 14 x 50g/23oz (1396m/1527y)
6 stitch markers
Wool needle for sewing
Note: Using a different wool other than the one specified may give an unsatisfactory result.

Tension
4ply/fingering - 28sts and 36 rows to 10cm/4ins over stocking stitch on 3.25mm/US 3 needles
8ply/DK - 22sts and 30 rows to 10cm/4ins over stocking stitch on 4mm/US 6 needles.

Abbreviations
C4B - slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold at back of work, work next 2 stitches off left hand needle, then knit the 2 stitches off the cable needle,
C4F - Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold at front of work, work next 2 stitches off left hand needle, then knit the 2 stitches off the cable needle,
cm - centimetres, ins - inches, k - knit, k2tog - knit the next two stitches together, k3tog - knit into the next three stitches together, kfab - knit into the front and the back of the next stitch, p - purl, p3tog - purl the next three stitches together, pm - place marker, kyok - knit, yarn over, knit into the same stitch turning 1 into 3sts, rep - repeat, sl1kw wyib - slip one stitch knitwist with yarn in back, sm - slip marker over to the other needle, st(s) - stitch(es), yo - yarn over.
