Here is an interesting experiment with my wonderful Silky Wool yarn: the oversized sweater is knitted at a looser gauge than normal and then machine-washed. This results in a slightly felted, soft fabric that is stabilized at the looser gauge.
The front and back has an easy-to-knit pattern with cabling, whereas the sleeves are worked in rib.
A detached collar is optional.
