MAYA CARDIGAN
I’ve always loved the classic granny stitch hexagon cardigans that are so popular, and that inspired me to create my own version in Tunisian crochet. If you aren’t familiar with this style of cardigans, you might be surprised to learn that it’s made from just two hexagons!
One of the best features of this design is the seamless join, achieved by grafting Tunisian Knit stitches. This cardigan is also special to me as it marks my first cardigan design. If you’re comfortable working in the round, you’ll find this project easy and enjoyable. Let’s dive in and get started!

TECHNIQUE AND DIFFICULTY
Intermediate - This pattern assumes you are familiar with the basics of starting and finishing a Tunisian crochet project, as well as working in the round.
If you’re new to Tunisian-In-The-Round, consider taking the course ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Tunisian-In-The-Round’ before starting this cardigan.
SIZES
XS, S/M, L/XL, 2X/ 3X, 4X/5X
YARN
I made my cardigan with KnitPicks Brava Worsted Yarn in colors Black, Sienna, Brindle, Almond, and Cream.
HOOK
For this cardigan, I built a double-ended hook using two hooks:
- 8 mm (L - 11) for the forward pass.
- 6.5 mm (K - 10.5) for the return pass. You could also use one with two hooks of the same size at both ends.
If you are planning to add the bottom extension (which is optional) to this pattern, you will also need an 8 mm (L-11) hook with a cable since that part is worked flat.
