Maya Pullover
The Maya Pullover is worked flat from the top-down starting at the shoulders. The pullover is knitted using light worsted or heavy DK weight (around 10 WPI) yarn, or yarn held together to achieve a similar weight. Shaping is worked along the front neckline, then stitches are picked up and cast on to create the back. Both sides are worked flat until the sweater is joined in the round under the arms to work the body. Stitches are picked up to work the sleeves and collar, which are worked in the round.
A more accessible version of the pattern PDF is available. This version features no italicized text, size 22 pt all-black font, no pictures in the body of the pattern, and all text in a single column. All charts in this version are high contrast and include written directions. A schematic is included in the pattern but it is not needed to complete the garment. Both versions of the pattern include a sans serif font (Fira Sans).
The Maya Pullover is modeled after gansey sweaters originally worn by fishermen in the Channel Islands. While I changed some elements to create a more modern sweater, if you would like to create a more traditional gansey, I provide some tips on how to do so!
The sweater is intended to be worn with 15-20 cm (6-8”) of ease. The finished bust circumferences are 85 ½, (92 ½, 103, 114), 121, 124 ½, 131 ½, (146, 153, 163 ½), 174 cm (33 ½, (36 ½, 40 ½, 45), 47 ½, 49, 52, (57 ½, 60, 64 ½), 68 ½ inches). The sample is shown with roughly 20 cm (8 in) of ease.
Yardages are 1107 (1204, 1337, 1453), 1536, 1631, 1730 (1921, 2020, 2197), 2261 meters (1211 (1317, 1462, 1588), 1680, 1784, 1892 (2101, 2209, 2403), 2473 yards).
Thank you so much to my wonderful testers who helped me with this pattern!
