~ Errata ~ it has come to my attention that there is a mistake in the instructions for the back shaping. The first line should read: “Knit in pattern up to row 14 of chart B. Work row 14 in pattern…”. The first line of the next paragraph should read: “Knit in pattern up to row 28 of chart B. Work row 28 in pattern…”

My first attempt at designing my own garment resulted in this mini skirt: knitted sideways in one piece and shaped with short rows.

As an exercise in pattern writing, I turned my project notes into a more-or-less formal pattern. It’s presented strictly as-is, in just the one-size-fits-Carmine. An experienced knitter should be able to adapt it to other sizes.
NB: I wrote this pattern when I had only just learned to knit myself. I’m aware that it’s less than perfect and in dire need of cleaning up. I hope yet to do so at some point, but frankly I won’t offer guarantees.

The name of this skirt was inspired by a few lines from Maya Angelou’s poem Still I Rise. Look it up if you have a chance, it’s beautiful.
