Meadowlark Mosaic Crochet Pattern
This mosaic crochet pattern can be worked with either the inset or overlay technique. Sample pictured is inset, but instructions are provided for both methods. Pattern includes a chart and row-by-row written instructions for both inset and overlay techniques.
The sample shown is a lapghan made with #4 weight yarn (Four skeins each of Bernat Premium colour, Mainstays colour D). Lapghan was made three repeats wide and 2.5 repeats long using the inset technique (roughly 37”x55”). You can make your afghan larger by adding repeats both horizontally and vertically or by using a larger hook (or smaller, by reducing the number of repeats or using a thinner yarn and a smaller hook).
Notes:
Quantities of yarn required will vary depending on what you intend to make with this mosaic pattern. The sample afghan is four skeins Bernat Premium in “Moss” (360 yds/skein), and four skeins Mainstays Acrylic Yarn (285 yds/skein, no colour name; variegated greens, blues, and beige), worked using the inset technique. Overlay results will be different, and will be squished vertically in comparison (the diamonds will be comparatively shorter and wider than the sample shown).
Sample shown was made with a 4.5mm hook. For a better drape, a 5.5 mm hook is recommended. A larger hook will make a softer more breathable afghan, but the pattern will be less distinct. Swatching is strongly encouraged so that you can decide what hook size yields the best results for you and your yarn.
