Meandering Monk
Meandering Monk is a cable sock pattern inspired by St Cuthbert and his travels through Northumberland.
These socks were designed as part of Whistlebare’s Yarns Around Northumberland, and they combine Cuthbert’s sock yarn, celtic cables and were photographed on location at Cuthbert’s Cave.
St Cuthbert was a monk at Lindisfarne in Northumberland UK, in the 7th Century, and he was the inspiration for the world famous Lindisfarne Gospels. The Celtic cables meander down the sock in the same way as St Cuthbert travelled through Northumberland, and his final journey around North East England to his final resting place at what is now Durham Cathedral.
The easy to remember cable pattern is a great first introduction to cabled socks, and runs down the top of the foot.
Cuthbert’s sock is a no nylon sock yarn made from a blend of 80% kid mohair and 20% finest wensleydale, from our very own farm in Northumberland and is hand dyed in small batches.
All Whistlebare patterns are provided FREE when the yarn needed to knit them is purchased.
