This is an approximately 12-inch granny-type square I designed at the request of my granddaughter, who asked for “something with a flower in the middle that looks like a castle window”. Not knowing what the heck she was talking about, but knowing she was into all things “princess”, royal, regal, palace, and castle, I looked through some of her fairy tale picture books. What I found that fit the bill was a beautiful illustration of a castle with carved stone windows at the tops of turrets, that indeed looked like they had flowers in the centers. After fooling around for several hours, and spending plenty of time in the frog pond (rip it, rip it), this is what I came up with. My little princess loves it as the center of her new pullover sweater (pattern for the sweater also available in my Ravelry shop). I hope your princess loves it too, in a
sweater or used as a repeating square motif in an afghan.
