Meditative Sufi Cowl
This project unites meditative practice with practical knitting. The project is a head covering that is light and lacy. The stitches pattern is called Turkish Stitch in North America and works well for this pattern because it is lacy without onerous counting or stop-start manipulation one might find in lace knitting. This might seem tedious if your primary goal is the product, but if you try this project as a meditation, see if you can find calm in the process in the twist and draw of the stitches.
Gauge is not that important, nor is yardage or specific yarn. A mohair lace weight yarn knits up to a lighweight and warm cowl.
Note: I am not Sufi, and while I do meditate, my meditation practice is not based on Sufi teachings. The notes and chapter in link text are based on book research.
