The single pattern is available in both US and UK terms on my blog. I use 3-ply linen yarn with a 2 mm hook for my snowflakes as it makes them very elegant and crisp, but of course other yarns can be used. A single snowflake uses very little yarn which is why it is near impossible to give an indication of how much yarn is needed.
