#MeduseldTSM

This pattern was designed for the November 2015 Sheepy Time Knits Middle Earth yarn club colorway, “Golden Halls.”

Meduseld: The Golden Halls of Edoras, Rohan’s capitol city. The place in Middle-Earth where something intricate but bold arises from ruggedness.

I’ve held a fascination with all things Celtic from an early age. Maybe it is the sense of elusiveness in that culture, or elaborately simple knot designs.

Translated to a sock, I charted up a mess of cables that looked like it would be torture to knit, but when it was paired with smooth stockinette, I achieved the perfect balance between complexity and minimalism.

Meduseld is knit from the cuff down, has a lightly patterned heel flap, unusually placed gussets, and a partially ribbed toe. It is best to stick with solids or semisolids (like Mandie’s lovely colorway, as specified in this sample), so that you don’t get a few jarring color changes that’ll obscure your hard work.

Pattern Specs:

Level of Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced (Don’t let this daunt you if you aren’t Intermediate or Advanced. If you want something bad enough, you can overcome all odds and complete it. If you need help, just ask me or any other Raveler; we’d be happy to help!)
