Mega granny mandala
A large mandala - a circle of granny style crochet. You can use as a table centerpiece, for general decoration, or make in touch yarn for a small floor rug.
The pattern includes full instructions for each round and photographs in UK crochet terms (pages 1-7) and US crochet terms (pages 8 - 14). Both download when you buy the pattern - then just print of the version you need.
For the mandala shown I used:
• Stylecraft Special DK. This very affordable 100% acrylic yarn, which washes very well, comes in a range of colours and is available worldwide. I have listed the colours used in each round of the pattern but you could use any combination of your own colour choices. Any DK yarn is suitable – a great stash buster.
• A A 3.5mm/E/size 4 crochet hook (or hook size to achieve required tension)
• Darning needle and scissors
Stitches used (UK terms – for US edition of the pattern see page 8):
• Double crochet (dc)
• Half treble (htr)
• Treble (tr)
Sizing: The mega granny mandala measures 66cm (26 inches) in diameter.
Tension: After the first six rounds, your circle should measure 15cm (6 inches)
Yardage/meterage: 550 metres for the entire mandala, or 600 yds.
About the pattern: Note that each round of the mandala is made in a separate colour. Fasten off at the end of each round then join the next colour. Weave in the ends in small batches as you go along to prevent the mass of ends interfering with your work. The pattern specifies 3ch to start, but you can use a standing treble if you prefer.
