Literally any yarn can be used, and thickness, and needles that give you the effect you like.

The sample is knitted in 4 ply/sock/fingering, on 3.75mm needles.

The sample uses 10g sections of yarn. But you could do it with any - it would look lovely with random quantities or small 5g stripes
