My daughter and I were checking out the junk “cowls” at the mall while we were Christmas shopping. Ok, we bought one for a gift, but it was bugging me. The yarn was thin & cheap and it had a seam. Yuk. I could do better and decided to surprise my daughters (I have 2) for Christmas.

While picking out the yarn for this project, my 3 year old Grandson didn’t care for the purple yarn I’d selected and he insisted that Auntie Megan would want orange yarn. As I write this, his Auntie only knows that Charlie helped with the selection of her yarn and, well, she’s been warned. ( I made her a purple one, too just in case, which will now go to Charlie’s mother.) Then I decided this pattern was a whole lot of fun and wound up back at the yarn store buying enough for 3 more in a variety of colors: Teal, Navy and Garnet Red.

UPDATE: Auntie Megan when presented with both scarves (and not told which Charlie wanted her to have) picked the Orange scarf. Charlie nailed that one!

About the project: It’s not too hard to learn each pattern - just pay attention to what you’re doing. Since you’re knitting in the round with right side facing you, it’s easy to spot and correct mistakes. It’s also easy to manipulate the pattern so that it appears seamless with continuous pattern by increasing or decreasing a stitch or two to make it work. The orange scarf photo shows the beginning of the round -not that you could tell. The last photo shows my knitting “helper” Lily who likes to lay under the project as I’m working.
