Make your own Megatherium (aka Gian Ground Sloth)! Ancient relatives of today’s sloths, the Giant Ground Sloth species are best known from Pliocene and Pleistocene fossil deposits in South America. At 4 tons and up to 20 feet from head to tail, “Megatherium americanum” is one of the largest land mammals known to have existed. Too heavy to live in trees like their modern relatives, these enormous beasts lived on the ground and used their large claws for foraging and defense.

The 44 page pattern includes detailed step-by-step photos and clear written instructions to make an amigurumi-style Megatherium. PLUS there is a 19 page printer-friendly TEXT ONLY version at the end of the pattern. This pattern has been fully tested by multiple testers. Includes yarn amounts and hook sizes to make a Megatherium using worsted weight yarn.

Recommended for INTERMEDIATE SKILL LEVEL. This pattern uses basic crochet stitches and more complex stitches (detailed in the pattern glossary).

A finished Megatherium made using Worsted Weight yarn is approximately 15” long from nose to tail, 13” tall from head to foot, and 7” wide across the hips.
