Colorblocking meets ombré in the Mélange scarf. Imagined as a knitter’s version of paint-by-numbers, five strands of laceweight Vale are held together in differing combinations of light and dark colors to create subtle shifts of tone and value. The medley of light and dark make for well-blended yet striking sections up the scarf, while the multiple strands worked together amplify Vale’s softness and cushiony bounce.
The sweater shown on the model is Jared Flood’s Backbay pullover from the BT Fall 14 Collection.
Construction
- Scarf is worked flat, end-to-end, in garter stitch with a slipped stitch selvedge at each side edge.
- Five strands of lace weight yarn are held together throughout to create the different colors.
- Six shades are used over the total length of the scarf. The colors are created by holding varying amounts of the dark and light colors together to create differently marled shades. Colors 1 and 6 are solid, consisting of 5 strands of the dark or light color only. Colors 2, 3, 4, 5 are marled shades made up of a mix of strands from both dark and light.
