This is an afghan block that could be used for a blanket, a dishcloth, pillow, or a potholder. If you shorten the repeats of the crossed v stitch and cast on fewer stitches, it could be used as a panel for a cardigan.

It is worked from the bottom up flat. The broken rib is very easy and TV knitting. The crossed V-stitch can be a challenge and is not TV knitting. Mixing the 2 gives you times of relaxation and times of challenge. I do think that the crossed v-stitch is beautiful and worth it.

Skill level : intermediate
Skills required: reading your knitting, use of a cable needle, knitting, purling, casting on, binding off, use of stitch markers, following a multi-row pattern. I used the stitch markers to tell me where the repeats started and also when to start the border stitches.

I could have knit a few more rows of the broken rib stitch to make it a perfect 11.5 square, but I was comparing it to the other squares I had made to make a blanket and I was trying to keep them uniform.
