Menja is one of the two ferries going from Esbjerg to Fanø, which is my favorite island, not only because of the knitting festival, but also for spending a relaxed holiday at the Danish seaside. For me, the ferry – although it is a practical ship and there is nothing beautiful about it – represents the final step on the way to the island, leaving the mainland behind and diving into the vacation.
And most of the time when we go there, the sun is shining, with reflections on the water, some small white waves … and of course the seals on the little sandbank at low tide.
(Watch out for Fenja, the 2nd ferry and also the‘sister’ cardigan to be published in December!)

For this tunic/ sweater, I am again using my ‘YoRa’ construction, top-down with Raglan increases in the back and yoke increases spread evenly over the rest of the row, for a slightly rounded front neck. Slip stitches on front and sleeves create a visual effect and, at the same time, lower the front neck just the few centimeters which are needed to make it flattering.

After the yoke is done, the body is really mindless knitting, with one exception: the slanted pockets with striped lining (similar to the back’s pattern), which make this tunic extra comfortable to wear.

All edges are worked in two colors, using a 2-color-cast-on and a corresponding 2-color-bindoff method.

Yarn requirements: For tunic length:

• 1400/ 1500/ 1600/ 1700/ 1800 meters of main color (MC) and
• 150-200 meters of contrast color (CC) yarn, e.g. multi-color or scraps in different colors. For sweater length: approximately 10% less. Use a (light) fingering yarn to get gauge.

Bust circumference: 90/ 98/ 106/ 114/ 124 cm
(For bigger sizes, you could work at a slightly looser gauge than the specified 26 sts x 36 rows.)
