Meredith Beanie

Easy-to-Knit Chunky Ribbed Beanie, an ideal first project for new knitters. Knits up quickly on 6mm or 6.5mm knitting needles with a finished hat taking only a couple of hours to complete. Instructions are given for knitting the hat flat (with a seam) and also knitting the hat in the round on circular needles (seamless).

The pattern requires 2 50g balls of chunky merino wool or 1 100g ball of thicker chunky acrylic wool.

Pattern includes:

  • easy to follow written instructions about how to make the hat

  • a list of materials required and a guide to the abbreviations and terms used in the pattern

  • a step-by-step, photo-illustrated guide to knitting the stretchy rib cast on

  • a beginner’s guide to choosing the right wool for the pattern

The techniques used to create the hat are: casting on, casting off, knit and purl stitches.

The pattern is now also available on the Smart Knit It app, a new tool that aims to simplify knitting by digitising patterns.
