Meret (Mystery Beret)
Thanks to Nellum for the name!
It’s a beret. It’s slouchy. It’s lacey. And it’s free.
This Hat was the Mystery Beret for November 2008, hosted in the Wormhead’s Hats group here on Ravelry. We had a lot of fun during the KAL and I hope you enjoy the pattern too.
To get the slouch originally intended, you’ll need to a) hit row gauge b) use a yo method that creates a nice big hole and c) fully block the lace. However, knitting additional repeats will create extra slouch and compensate for differences in gauge, and notes for this are included.
About the yarns… above is a list of suitable yarns, both for colourways to suit the stitch pattern and for yardage per skein/100g.
I’m unable to offer pattern support for my free patterns via Ravelry PM or email - please visit the Meret thread in Wormhead’s Hats group if you have a question about this pattern. Thanks for your understanding!

Notes
This pattern can be made more slouchy by knitting one or two extra lace repeats – one extra repeat will make a regular slouch beret, two extra repeats will make it really slouchy! You can also mix and match the different sizing options, by starting the lace chart in different places than those given.
Over time, this pattern has been through many incarnations & been worked with so many variations! The current sample in the photos – the orange Meret – was added in autumn 2011 and was knitted with a combined rolled+ribbed brim, and has 2 full repeats of the stitch pattern in the body. It is the 20in/51cm size.
