Difficulty: Easy/ Intermediate
Gauge is not important to this project and you may use any size yarn and use the appropriate hook size for the yarn you use. Make sure that if you use a bigger hook that it is still tight enough in stitches for the fibrefill stuffing not to show.
Hooks and yarn vs. Approx. Finished Size:
Small Mermaid 3.5mm and 3mm / DK yarn – finished doll will measure approximately 14.6’’ (37cm) from top of her head to longest point of her fins
Medium Mermaid 4.5mm and 4mm / Aran yarn – finished doll will measure approximately 17’’ (44cm) from top of her head to longest point of her fins
Large Mermaid 5.5mm and 5mm / Chunky yarn – finished doll will measure approximately 21.5’’ (55cm) from top of her head to longest point of her fins
You will need (for original ‘small size’ mermaid doll):
1 - 1.5 skeins in total for tail and fin - Stylecraft Special DK (pastel rainbow version: candy floss, apricot, lemon, spring green, sherbet, clematis and wisteria),
0.5 skein for head, arms and upper body - Paintbox Simply DK (vanilla cream)
and 1 skein for the mermaids hair - Hayfield Spirit Chunky (0408 Sundown)
Scraps of black acrylic yarn or embroidery floss for eyes/ eyelashes and eyebrows
Scraps of pale pink acrylic yarn or embroidery floss for lips
Polyester Fiber stuffing
Safety eyes (8mm/ 10mm/ 12mm)
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Soft pink fabric pen
