Mermaid Tail Top
The fabric is very forgiving as you can see in the pictures. I am wearing the one on the manequin (I hope to get closer to that mannequin’s size)
The pattern starts with the cast on and set up row, then jumps into the lace pattern repeats inside the 3 selvedge stitches shown on the charts. The selvedge stitches are for seaming and the placement stitches on the small and large sizes are for centering the lace pattern for correct fit of the between sizes. (not whole repeats)
I used up 6 balls to the VERY END of the Schulana. I recommend buying 7 because your tension may be different than mine, or you may want to lengthen it a bit for yourself.by repeating one more pattern repeats before the arm decreases.
It is a DK. Unfortunately the Schulana is no longer available so I will describe it.It is a cotton knitted tube (or tape) with poly accents to give it flash. If you locate something close, and it is cotton in a tape form, the pattern will be forgiving enough to work. Stranded cottons tend to droop after washing, so going down a needle size to work the pattern may work for the inevitable stretch. DO a gauge swatch, wash it and find out.
If you are clever and want you top a bit looser, (or for a XXL size), use the pattern stitch for the large size but increase the number of stitches by 10 to add another stitch pattern repeat.
7/2017 I found a great current yarn for this pattern. Debbie Bliss’s Luxury Silk DK.
