One of my fondest childhood memories is from when I was 5 or 6 years old. We just decorated our live New Year’s tree that day. In the evening, when the lights in the room were off, and only the tree lights were on, I crawled under the tree. Lying on my back, I was looking up through the branches at all the glimmering glass ornaments and the tree lights imagining that the tree was a magical fairyland. To this day, the best thing about the holidays for me is bringing the tree in, putting up the decorations, lighting up the lights to create this little portal into the magical fairyland. And I always leave my tree up long after the holidays not ready for the magic to be gone.

Materials
1. US Size 0 (2mm) set of dpns or circular needles (for Magic Loop method)
2. Light fingering weight yarn 231y/50 g (211m/50g). You will need about 314y/70g total: Color 1 – 147y/33g, Color 2 – 147y/33g, Color 3 – 20y/4g
3. Tapestry needle (for duplicate stitch) -optional
4. 42 beads (red), 28 beads (white or clear) - optional
Gauge
9 sts x 13 rows (in stranded colorwork knitting in the round) in 1” x 1” after blocking
Notes
Sizes: The size of the mittens can be adjusted with yarn and needles. My recommendation would be: for S/M light fingering + 2mm needles, for M use fingering + 2.25/2.5 mm needles, for large use sport weight and 2.5/3 mm needles.
Options: There are two chart options: option 1 – the ornament with diagonal stripes on the outer side of the mitten (the full ornament is seen when the mittens are presented to other people); option 2 - the ornament with diagonal stripes on the inner side of the mitten (the full ornament is seen by the person who wears the mittens). Choose preferred option.
Stranded colorwork: Follow the charts from right to left. Catch longer floats using preferred method.
Duplicate stitch: Some of the designs on the ornaments are added by using color 3 and duplicate stitch technique. Duplicate stitch can also be used to add a third color to the cuff of the mittens.
Adding beads (optional): To make your mittens more festive and sparkly, consider adding beads to the stitches marked with a B on the chart.
Construction: The mittens are knit in the round. The front of the mitten has more stitches than the palm side of the mitten (more notes on that in the instructions). The mittens have a sore thumb construction with the thumb gusset growing from the side of the mitten. Once the thumb gusset is finished, the thumb stitches are placed on a stitch holder or scrap yarn, and you finish the body of the mitten first. Lastly, the thumb stitches are placed back on needles and the thumb is completed.

As always, Big Thank YOU to my testes: bikewi, Mitt, bgow and CHodson! ♥♥♥
