approx. 1000 size 8/0 beads are applied with a crochet hook as the garment is knit.

This garment was knit with Sweet Georgia Party of Five kit. There was 100yds of each of 5 colours. The yardage is tight if you are working with one of the kits so getting the correct gauge is important.

The Solid pink version was knit with 2 hanks of Buffalo Wool Co Sexy with a Silver Lining in the pink and 1 hank in the black - it used approx. 600 yds.

Having said that - this is a great pattern to use up stash. One 100gr hank of most sock yarn will do the body and approx. 25grs of a contrasting hank will be enough for the edging!

A mantle is a small shoulder covering – just enough to cover the shoulders and the arms to the elbow.

The Merry Mantle is knit from side to side in garter stitch and the shaping is constructed with short-rows. The colours are striped through the short-row pattern. The bottom section has an open lace beaded pattern and the edge is finished with a contrasting beaded lace edging. The beads are always optional. The mantle is closed with a heavy cord lacing that is simply pushed through the weave of the knitting.
