Notes from the Designer:
These mittens are inspired by a past holiday I spent in the snowy mountains of Lake Tahoe. Sitting on the porch, wrapped in a big, comfy blanket, drinking hot chocolate, and watching the kids and grandkids playing in the snow. There is nothing better than listening to little ones giggling and having fun; they were merrymaking. These festive mittens are made using knit and purl stitches along with three different cables. The cables wrap around themselves like that warm blanket wrapped around me. This pattern is easily adjustable from cuff lengths to hand lengths and from mittens to fingerless gloves. The different sizes allow you to make mittens for all the merrymakers in your life.
- The sample shown in the pattern is a size Adult Medium.
- This pattern uses a thinner worsted-weight yarn. Check your gauge before starting.
- Cables tend to pull in stitches, making the number of stitches and rows in a 4” (10 cm) swatch different than knitting garter stitch flat. Therefore, the pattern includes the gauges for both garter stitch knitted flat and the actual mitten stitches.
- The mittens are knitted from the cuff up, allowing you to try them on as you make them. Remember that mittens may stretch once blocked.
- The pattern can be easily adjusted to make fingerless gloves. Simply stop at any point in the hand section.
- The purl stitch count before and after the knit in the back loop may be different depending on the size you are making.
