Mesa is a garter stitch collared shawl with the impression of a soft, unstructured jacket when worn draped around the shoulders and closed in the front with JUL styling tools. This simple shape may be styled in multiple ways that create several fresh looks.
My intention with this pattern is to bring the idea of size-inclusivity to an accessory that is typically treated as un-sized. Yet scale matters in the realm of shawls and whether the scale of a shawl corresponds well to your body is potentially the difference between a wonderful, wearable knitwear wardrobe staple and a heartbreaking waste of time and material.
I have developed a series of measurements that takes the mystery out of this question of scale. The customization instructions direct you to take relevant measurements to ensure the scale of the shawl’s elements works for your body and your preferences.
I have designed Mesa so it relates explicitly to the dimensions of the body of the wearer. Because of this attention to the scale of the body in relation to the dimensions of the shawl, the shawl is absolutely knockout when styled. It reads more like a garment than a wrap and thus becomes a perfect serious accessory to pair with other wardrobe elements.
This could be the perfect shawl.
