Metrodora is the first know female physician to have ever written a medical treatise On the Diseases and Cures of Women, which covers many fields of medicine, including gynecology but not obstetrics.
Very little is known of her apart from her name and the fat that she was likely born in Egypt, but it is known that several women practiced as physician in the ancient Greco-Roman world. The oldest copy of her book, a Latin translation, is dated between the III and V century and is currently preserved in Florence. Metrodora is also the title of the first solo record by Greek-Italian singer and vocal experimentator Demetrio Stratos who, just like Metrodora, was born in Egypt.

Metrodora è anche il titolo del primo disco solita di Demetrio Stratos, cantante e ricercatore musicale italo-greco nato, come Metrodora, in Egitto.
