Valentine’s Day needn’t be just for lovers. Maybe we can use these to tell our family and friends we love them too, a tiny virtual hug .

These little gems are so quick and easy, one can be crocheted in under 10 minutes. Using just 3.5 yards of scrap sock yarn, you’re able to include one in each Valentine card you’ll send. You can add 2 to your envelope and still be under 1 ounce of postage!

Use them in all the books you love: pattern books, favorite cookbooks, novels, the Good book…

Add a charm to the tail end, or on the heart--or not. I used a tiny metal charm, you could also use 1-3 beads, or whichever doo-dad you fancy! Maybe even a removable stitch marker which your recipient can put to good use!

The tails on these bookmarks employ a very easy “SC-ish cord” which works up extremely speedy, easily and with beautiful, consistent tension. This is NOT the popular Foundation + SC you may use already in your projects. This is different, and cool!

MATERIALS:
Crochet Hook C/2/3mm
3.5 yards sock yarn
Sharp tapestry needle to tuck in ends
Tiny charm, or beads to fit yarn

DIMENSIONS:
Heart: 1” x 1”
Tail: approximately 11” long

GAUGE:
not really important,
just make to a fabric you like

STITCHES USED:
SS: slip stitch
SC: single crochet
DC: double crochet
TC: treble crochet

Of course, you can use any yarn and matching hook to make these any size you wish.
