Description
The Michigan Ave Mittens are a simple, beginner friendly approach to thick and cozy crochet mittens. This pattern is crocheted using the slip stitch in the back loop only as 2 halves and a thumb, all seamed together to result in a roomy mitt with a snug fit around the wrist to keep the wind out.
Sizing
This is sized as an average women’s size. Finished mitten measures 4.5” W x 11” H (not including thumb). Thumb measures 2” W x 3” H
To size up:
- For a longer mitten, increase the number of chains at the beginning (12 wrist stitches with size US K-10.5/6.5 mm hook should stay the same)
- For a wider mitten, add rows by 2 to the work even section
To size down:
- For a shorter mitten, decrease the number of chains at the beginning (12 wrist stitches with size US K-10.5/6.5 mm hook should stay the same)
- For a narrower mitten, decrease rows by 2 in the work even section
Yarn
You’ll need 2 skeins of Lionband Wool-ease thick & quick, 1 in each colorway, or 2 skeins of 1 colorway. For yarn alternatives you’ll need 2 colors of super bulky weight yarn, 80-90 yrds each or 1 color with 160-180 yrds.
