This pattern requires the yarn to be tied off and reattached several times, so it is suggested that the crocheter reads the instructions carefully. A beginner crocheter friend was able to understand the pattern and create her own blanket; but I would still consider this an INTERMEDIATE level pattern. There are lots of pictures to help guide the crocheter along the way.

A minimum of two colors of yarn are needed for a single square, but you can use as many different colors as you’d like throughout your blanket. I strongly suggest using stitch markers to mark the ears and the head to keep track of where you attach the square.

The square won’t be a perfect square (there are more stitches on top and bottom than on the sides.) The squares are quite large (around 11” wide.) Make as many as you need to make the afghan the size of your choosing. I used six squares to make a large baby blanket. Using a smaller hook will produce a smaller square, but I’m unsure of how the quality of the square may differ. I used a block edging to finish my blanket, and I describe how I did this, but the blanket can be edged however you’d like.
