THIS IS FOR PATTERN ONLY NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT!!!!
Materials:
• 4.25mm (G), 5mm (H) hook
• Worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart Super Saver in black and yellow yarn. Or any color combo you like
• Yarn needle for sewing.
• Sewing needle and thread
• Black and yellow felt (or felt to match your color combo)
• Scissors
• Pen and a piece of paper (for tracing)
• Yellow ribbon (optional for neck strap))
• Already made bat patch if your not making your own felt patch
The skills required to complete this pattern include:
-Basic crochet stitches
-Changing colors
-Cutting and sewing felt together (optional if your making your own patch), You determine how big or small you want the patch to be. I show how I make my patches, but If this way doesn’t work for you, you can buy the patches online or in many fabric stores and even Walmart. You would add on the patch at instructed on the patch instructions. I DO NOT recommend using glue since glue can become hard and could scratch the little baby’s.
Please note: This cape is for micro preemies ranging from 22- 26 weeks or baby’s around 1-3 pounds. Depending on the baby it could fit other gestations/weights. Micro preemies have very sensitive skin so try to use as soft yarn as you can or wash the cape afterword’s with fabric softener (before patch or felt is added). Do not use wool or yarn that frays. Wool can possibly cause static which can shock baby’s. Also try to keep your stitches tight so there are not big holes for little fingers or toes to go into. I also recommend if you are making these capes to donate to a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) to call the NICU first and make sure they are accepting any donations and if they have any restrictions. Some NICU’s only take certain colors or are very specific how to wash or bag items before bringing them in the NICU. Any other questions call your local NICU.
I’ve also been told by a few of my testers this cape comes out the perfect size for some baby dolls and American girl dolls if your not wanting to make it for a preemie! You don’t have to add a patch/logo you can keep it plain.
This pattern is written in English and uses U.S crochet terminology. This pattern is 6 pages long and includes instructions and multiple pictures, you can always contact me if you have any further questions. The pattern is in PDF form. Pattern has been tested by multiple testers! The finished product when using recommended yarn and hooks, the cape should be about 7 ½-8 inch or so long (Size may vary depending on tension). Yes baby’s are really this small!!!
