Midnatt
Lots of stars, wherever you are****
I love a clear winter-night, when the sky is really dark and the stars are shining bright. And I love the thought that we all can admire the same stars wherever we are<3
My Midnatt (midnight) hat is inspired from the star-shine above.
It’s the perfect winter-beanie and a lovely gift or to spoil yourself.
Size
The hat is one-size.
The sample was knit at gauge 23 sts and 30 rounds = 10 x 10 cm/
4 x 4”, which gave a circumference of 47 cm/18.50” and a height of 21 cm/8.25”.
If changing the gauge slightly you can work the hat to other measurements:
At 22 sts = 10 cm/4”, the circumference will be 49 cm/19.25”
At 24 sts = 10 cm/4”, the circumference will be 45 cm/17.75”.
Materials
Yarn: I worked my hat using the DK weight yarn, “Iloyarn 2” from Tant Hulda.
This baby alpaca yarn comes in skeins of 100 gr/3.53 oz and 200 m/218 yards. Of this specific yarn, I used approximately 80 m/88 yards of MC (colour C820, dark blue) and 40 m/44 yards of CC (colour SFN10, undyed). If you want to make a larger brim you need to count for more wool. Choosing yarn: I suggest any good quality yarn that knits up to gauge. Using an alpaca yarn is a bit tricky; it is not as forgiving for stranded knitting as a merino for instance. The stitches tend to be a bit loose when using alpaca. If you are unfamiliar with stranded knitting, I do recommend a merino with more stretch and bounce.
Needles: for the brim you need a circular needle, 40 cm/16”, size 3 mm/US2.5. For the main-body of the hat you need a circular needle, 40 cm/16”, size 4 mm/US6. For the shaping of the crown you need a set of 4 DPNS, size 4 mm/US6.
The pattern
There is a schematic.
The stranded section as well as the shaping of the crown is charted (colour-chart).
The measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches.

The stranded knitting is fairly simple as you use the same 2 colours through the entire stranded section.
