Knitted top-down, this elegant cowl/capelet develops from distant waves into rolling breakers before fading on the seashore. It is perfect for summer evenings or winter parties, particularly if you choose a yarn with a little sparkle. In a plain yarn, its clean Art Deco lines mean it could even keep you warm on the way to the office.

Knitted in the round, it is an easy piece for an intermediate lace knitter since there are no complex stitches. This is more about the fun of watching the developing pattern unfold. A novice lace knitter with experience of knitting in the round on other projects would also find this straightforward.

One size. After blocking, 60cm/24” neck circumference, 115cm/45” hem circumference,
43cm/17” high.

Materials
Fyberspates Sparkle Sock 75% superwash merino wool 20% nylon 5% stellina, 600m/656yds per 150g skein. 1 skein Pebble or colour of your choice. NOTE this is the larger 150g skein available from Fyberspates, not the 100g skein.
4.5mm/US 7 circular needles with 60cm/24” cable.
4.5mm/US 7 circular needles with 100cm/40” cable.
8 markers (minimum) to mark increase sections
1 contrasting marker to mark start of round

Yarn notes:
Sample used 135g, approx 540m/600yds. Please allow more to ensure against running out/variation in tension. 600m/656yds is recommended.
The design makes use of the larger 150g sock skeins that some yarn producers have brought out. Or go for two or more skeins of a yarn with lower metreage. Solid or semi-solid yarns are best, but the bold pattern means lightly variegated yarns work, such as in the sample photographs.
For a different look, try Rowan Kidsilk Haze, 70% kid mohair, 30% silk, 210m/229yds per 25g. Try 3 balls Trance 582 or colour of your choice.

Tension
24 sts to 10cm/4” over stocking stitch before blocking using 4.5mm/US 7 needles or size required to achieve tension.
